The Festival Queen for 2012 has been chosen! - Miss Chloe Collins

The selection took place as part of a unique event, hosted by the Festival on Sunday 29th January. The 'Going For Guild' event took to mark Goosnargh & Whittingham's role in the 2012 Preston Guild celebrations and saw a wide variety of the talented youth (and some not so young) perform to a packed Village Hall.

The event also celebrated our new relationship with the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival (see below) with a finale performance of 'A Time To Celebrate', the theme song of the Canadian Festival

The complete event was also video recorded and is available to purchase, please contact our Secretary for information.

Click the graphic below to view a 12 minute taster of the event.

(Note - This clip features footage of all the performers. If you are a parent and would like us to remove footage of your Child's performance, please contact us with details and we will do so.)

Exciting News - We're Going Global in 2012

In the early part of 2011 we were slightly surprised, but delighted nonetheless, to receive correspondence from the Board of the Apple Blossom Festival in Annapolis Valley, Canada (www.appleblossom.com). One of their members, Tony Stephenson who is originally British, had found our website and has been instrumental in setting up a twinning link between our two Festivals.

In October 2011, Tony and wife Holly were able to visit Goosnargh, meeting many local representatives and taking in the sights of our village and surroundings.

We're delighted that we'll be able to welcome representatives from the Annapolis Valley to the 2012 Goosnargh & Whittingham Whitsuntide Festival in June this year where they will take part in our Festival and then subsequently in 2013 we look forward to being represented in Canada for the 2013 Apple Blossom Festival.

There will be one very significant gap in the 2011 Festival, with the absence of Mrs Maisie Kitching, our most senior committee member who very sadly passed away earlier this year.

Fans of the Festival will remember that last year's event was dedicated to Maisie as a celebration of her 100th year. Members of the Committee have all paid tribute to their unique memories of Maisie and her involvement in all aspects of the Festival and village life.

Our thoughts remain with all of Maisie's family at this time.

Goosnargh's Got Talent

Sunday 30th January 2011 saw a unique celebration of local talent under the banner "Goosnargh's Got Talent". The event featured a variety of performers – singing, musical instruments, choirs, acting and dancing. From the very young to more senior members of the village there was something to suit everyone.

Over 120 guests packed into a packed Village Hall. Guest of honour was Mrs Maisie Kitching, now in her 101st year. The show had been organised to celebrate her 100th birthday. Maisie is the longest standing Committee Member for the Festival and was presented with a gift for her birthday and to thank her for all her help in the festival over previous years and help with other village events. In total over £400 was raised which will go to the festival fund, with money made from programme sales will go to help a local child.

During the event, the festival queen for 2011-2012 was picked out of a hat by reigning Queen Bethan Williamson - Miss Pheobe Collin will be the new Queen, to be crowned on Festival Day.

You may have noticed...

You may have noticed a slight lack of updates on this website. Please accept our complete apologies. We've had a few difficulties in getting updates to load up onto our web server space.

Evidently we've now got sorted, hopefully we've got rid of the last of the gremlins, so normal business should now be resumed.

We've removed all of last year's history of news, so here's a quick summary to keep you in touch...
