The big event of the year has just taken place - Festival Day was Saturday 5th June

(so big, it's got a page of its own - click HERE to go there.)

The 2010 Signing On Disco took place on Friday 22nd January...

Many thanks to all those who took part in the event, with an earlier evening format. At the event the Festival Queen Elect was chosen as Bethan. In addition to her starring role on Festival Day, Bethan will also undertake a range of duties through the year including representing Goosnargh and Whittingham at the other local festivals.

We offer our congraulations to Bethan and wish her well in all her preparations leading up to this year's Festival on Saturday 5th June 2010.

The Goosnargh and Whittingham Whitsuntide Festival Sports were held on Goosnargh Village Green on Sunday 8th June.

The traditional flat races, jumping and novelty races were greatly enjoyed by those who participated, despite a chilling breeze. A new feature this year was the availability of freshly prepared hotdogs, courtesy of Goosnargh Scout Group, just the thing to stave off the cold. The afternoon was rounded off by the presentation of the winners’ trophies by the 2009 Festival Queen - Miss Rebecca Clayton, and by Mrs Maisie Kitching.

The Committee would like to thank the sports day team and the many volunteer helpers for all their hard work, and the participants and their families, for their support.

The 2009 Festival took place on Saturday 30th May.

See the 2009 Festival Page for more information.

Congratulations Rebecca

The 2009-2010 Festival Queen, chosen at the Signing On Disco is to be Rebecca.

This will be a particular family honour for 14-year old Rebecca since she will be the fourth member of her family to be crowned, after Grandmother Marjorie in 1959, Mum Lorraine in 1978 and big sister Hayley in 2000!

Rebecca will of course be crowned by retiring Queen Poppy at the 2009 Festival on Saturday 30th May.

The Signing On Disco took place on Friday 30th January 2009. The theme for this year was 'High School Musical'.

The signing on disco is of course the chance to put names forward, not just for Festival Queen but also for all the other key roles such as attendants, page boys and canopy bearers.

Festival Sports Day took place on a glorious hot Sunday 8th June. Watch this space for the names of all the winners, but in the meantime here are the day's photos.

If you would like to order copies of these or any of the Festival photos please contact us.

The 2008 Festival was again a huge success, taking place on Saturday 31st May. You can see all the details on the 2008 Festival page and also all the official photos on the Gallery page.

Here are some of the comments received:-

"Congratulations on a brilliant Festival today.

The new location and format worked perfectly and it was a pleasure to be a part of it. The band really enjoyed the day as well. Thanks for inviting us to take part once again. Thank you also for inviting the band into the hall for refreshments, the standard of which was extremely high. Please convey the band's appreciation to all concerned."     (The Longridge Band)

"Big TEXAS thanks.   Good to see a touch of home.    Sure brings back the memories.   From the position of the camera, you live very close to Jim Cooksons family house or Ronnie Rossells.  Big thanks to all who ORGANIZED the annual event.  You need to put the word out on Internet for all of us scattered all over to return for next years festival.  I think if people know early enough they will return.

Looking back, seeing the impact of Whittingham Hospital on the life of all connected with the hospital and both villages and surrounding areas is a little  bit like watching a T.V series.    It sure played a big part in my life and very happy memories. Here's one.  "Harry Wragg is selling more meat than I do"  GUESS who.

BIG THANKS FROM THE RIVER CITY,    AT THE ALAMO.     Tom  Ratcliffe   San Antonio  TEXAS"

"As a visitor to the Goosnargh and Whittingham festival for several years I would like to congratulate the committee and all those who worked so hard to make this years festival such a success.   The new location was a great improvement and the shorter walk for all the entrants and supporters was I’m sure much appreciated.   The only disappointment was that one of the adult floats had people drinking from beer / lager cans which I and several of my friends thought was unnecessary at a family event.    Could they not have waited until after the parade?   Apart from that a great afternoon and super weather too."        Iain.

You may have noticed...

You may have noticed a slight lack of updates on this website. Please accept our complete apologies. We've had a few difficulties in getting updates to load up onto our web server space.

Evidently we've now got sorted, hopefully we've got rid of the last of the gremlins, so normal business should now be resumed.

We've removed all of last year's history of news, so here's a quick summary to keep you in touch...

Festival Queen for the 2008-2009 season will be Miss Poppy Haresnape, who you may recognise as chief attendant to her older sister Daisy when she was crowned in 2006.

We wish Daisy all our best wishes for the Festival, along of course with all her Attendants, Flower Girls, Crown Bearer and family.

Many Thanks to all who supported the Festival Jumble Sale earlier this year.

Again the jumble sale raised a fantastic amount, this year just over £1000, which is used to support funding of Festival activities, ensuring that it can continue.

This is quite a feat, considering most jumble items are sold for pennies, but is probably due in large part to all the ladies in the kitchen, rolling out fantastic bacon butties and gallons of tea.
